KAAD-LP is very pleased and excited to announce that we are the recipient of our first grant from the California Arts Council.
CAC gave the green light to KAAD-LP to create an audio documentary to preserve the history and music heard in Columbia State Historic Park from the 1850’s to the present. We'll be drawing from interviews with former and current Columbia musicians and will feature live musical performances recorded in our auxiliary studio.
David Simerley will serve as producer/editor for the documentary with Steve Lavine as host. Ron Edson and Richard Sholer will train student assistants in the making of the 4-part series.
We've been overhauling our out-of-date website for quite some time. Now it's time to unveil it. Our logo looks the same but a lot of our information has changed. Scroll through to catch up on what's new at the station.
For instance, our Donate button works now. That means you can send money to us easily. This is a great benefit and we hope you will give it a try.
Interested in volunteering at KAAD? We have a new form you can fill out. You'll find it in our menu under Your Part - Volunteer. Choose how you'd like to participate at KAAD and press the Submit button.
Want us to help promote your business? Want to associate your name with a particular program? Go to Your Part - Sponsor/Underwrite.
Interested in our audio training program or what we do to involve young people? Try out Training or Youth.
Do you receive our Newsletter each month? If not, fill in Subscribe and next month, you'll get the latest news from KAAD.
We still have a ways to go to perfect the website in terms of our on-air voices. That's our next project.
When it comes time to identify anything on the trail -- from fish to flowers to feces (ahem -- "animal evidence"!), multiple copies -- in various states of wear -- of The Laws Field Guide to the Sierra Nevada are bound to be pulled from daypacks.
This month's Tuolumne County Trailhead program is an interview with the valuable and venerable book's author, John Muir Laws, less formally known as Jack. Besides the Field Guide to the Sierra Nevada, Jack has written and illustrated numerous other books and guides. He is a science educator, a research associate of the California Academy of Sciences and a regular contributor to Bay Nature magazine.
During the pandemic, Jack's passion has turned to nature journaling and appreciating his backyard garden. Give a listen for tools and tips on starting your own nature journal and the benefits you'll reap from practicing "deliberate curiosity".
Wendy Hesse's Tuolumne County Trailhead program airs the second and fourth weekend of the month, September 11th, 12th, 25th and 26th at 12:30pm.
Randy McMichael was feeling a little sad to be leaving KOCI but eager to begin living full-time in Twain Harte in his family’s cabin. Just when he thought his radio days might be over, he discovered KAAD-LP and we discovered Randy.
Rock’n Randy is a native Californian whose hometown is Burlingame. He is a graduate of California State University Long Beach and comes to KAAD after living the 27 years in Mission Viejo.
During the past 4 years, Randy has been extensively involved in the Newport Beach community radio station KOCI -LP. During his involvement at KOCI, he supported numerous community events, created technical documents, produced talk shows, trained new staff and developed a wide on-air following with listeners.
To begin his KAAD life, Rockin’ Randy will be “sitting in” for Diamond Lil on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 9am until her return in mid-October.
After that, Randy is excited to grow the listenership all the way up Highway108.
